Ford’s new manufacturing unit in Chennai

Ford India now has two plants in India, one is in Sanand, Gujarat while the second is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The company will not be manufacturing the Figo and the Classic, so how will Ford utilise the capacity of the Tamil Nadu plant.

The Chennai plant will be predominantly used to manufacture SUVs, while the Gujarat plant will be for the Figo and Figo Aspire. The Ecosport and the Endeavour will be made in Chennai, while Gujarat will carry on with the compact range for the time being, stated Nigel Harris, President Ford India.

The Chennai plant of Ford makes Ecosport and it is exported to 39 countries, while Ford Figo is exported to about 50 countries already. Our exports have gone up and this where are capacities are being utilised at the moment, added Nigel.

Ford has just launched the Figo hatchback and this year the company has got in two new products, the Figo and the Figo Aspire. These have replaced the old Figo and the Figo Aspire. The next product in line is the Endeavour, which is their premium SUV against the Toyota Fortuner. This should be unveiled around the Auto Expo.
